There is a fine line between ethical and non-ethical hacking. Unethical hacking is usually associated with cyber attacks that harm the victim in more than one way. This is what gives hacking a negative connotation.
On the flip side, ethical hacking is different from malicious hacking since it has a positive intent behind it.
There is a device in town called the Flipper Zero, and it has taken the internet by storm!
Flip Zero is a hacking device commonly used for ethical hacking and has become every tech enthusiast’s dream device. It is capable of carrying out everyday tasks and some of them blow my mind.
Read ahead to find out about some of the mundane tasks that a Flipper Zero can do.
Use It as a Universal Remote
Most remote controls come with a built-in Infrared system that sends a signal, allowing you to control a remote-operated device. Your Flipper Zero can replace the infrared remote controls in your home, including your stereo, air conditioner, TV, and many more.
The Flipper Zero uses a function called “brute force,” where it sends its library of all possible Infrared Codes whatever you point at. This way, you can use the device as a universal remote control for devices that utilize infrared technology. However, the function won’t work if your device is paired with a specific remote control.
If you carry your Flipper Zero around, you may even use it to change the volume and channels of the TVs in public places and alter air conditioner settings wherever you go.
Testing Your Home Network’s Security
Internet security is something that no well-known Internet Service Providers (ISPs) compromise on. My Xfinity Internet always puts my mind at ease, all thanks to its xFi Advanced Security System, but there’s no harm in double-checking if my home network is secure enough or not.
The Flipper Zero can be used to ensure that a home internet network is safe. However, you must have a custom firmware called “Marauder” installed on your Flipper Zero. The only way to do that is to get a Wi-Fi board in your Flipper Zero that is compatible with Marauder. Even if you don’t get this board and use the default Wi-Fi board, you can use the FZEE Flasher to install Marauder on your Flipper Zero’s Wi-Fi board.
You will also need to install custom firmware on your Flipper Zero, such as the Xtreme firmware. Or you can use any other firmware that is compatible with Marauder, such as Unleashed and Momentum. Also, keep in mind that your home network must be set at 2.4GHz frequency and not a higher one since the Flipper Zero won’t be able to analyze that.
Once you are done, you can head to XDA Developers for a step-by-step guide to analyze your home network security level using your Flipper Zero.
Assessing Wireless Devices
The Flipper Zero has an integrated sub-GHz wireless antenna that can pick up signals from everyday wireless devices, such as car key fobs and wireless doorbells. This makes diagnostics easier by a mile! If you feel like any of your wireless devices is acting up, you can put your Flipper Zero to good use and see what the problem might be.
Not only can you test out the wireless transmitter functionality, but you can also check the range of your devices. This gives you an idea of how far you have to be from your car to get your key fob to work. Not only this, but the device can also record the codes transmitted from car key fobs and retransmit these codes to a car. However, this will not unlock a modern car since they require a “rolling code” that changes the code with each use!
Take Your Pet’s Temperature
If your pet has a microchip implanted in them, then you can take your pet’s temperature using the Flipper Zero! Convenient, isn’t it? This can help you keep track of your pet’s health so that you can determine whether they are sick or not.
The Flipper Zero can also read the pet’s identification number in case of possible emergencies. However, before you proceed with checking the temperature, make sure that the microchip implanted is a thermo chip. All you have to do is to hold the Flipper Zero near the RFID chip in your pet for a few seconds and the device will give you either your pet’s identification number or its temperature.
If you can’t figure out where the chip is inserted in your pet, you can use the Flipper to scan your pet and find out where it is. However, you cannot use your Flipper Zero to locate a lost pet since it has to be within proximity of your pet.
A Bonus Tip
Most workplaces require an RFID tag to let you get into office buildings. You can use your Flipper Zero to clone your tag! While this may seem like a security threat, you need to have the original tag to clone it in the first place. This way, you can get into the office even if you don’t have the original tag!
